I am on emergency duty in a distric hospital. A 5 year old boy came in stuporosed condition with cold extremities , saliva dribblng from mouth. After repeated questioning he was able to show his tongue. This made me optimistic and put him on supportive treatment. A neursing home had earlier reffered the child to higher cemtre telling his condition serious and chances of survible very thin.
Till now I have not seen any death caused by scorpion BITE. I have seen medical professionals using local anaesthetic, steroids,antihistaminics and today for the first time digitalis aswell.
In past I have tried opiate analgesic but unable to relive pain and simultaneously seen faith healer making patient comfortable within minutes.In rural India snake or scorpion bites are usualy treated with Mantras with faith healers and when unsuccessful medical help is sought.
It appears FEAR of BITE is more important to treat than the sting or bite itself.
By the time I searched this website , read and wrote a comment my patient is comfortable.
